Vita

Dr. David J. Colmenar DMD MSD is native to Los Angeles, California, where his parents, Drs. Gil I. Colmenar DMD MS and Bettina Y. Colmenar DMD RDH, still maintain practice. He grew up and attended Catholic schools in Ventura County, including Villanova Preparatory School (2012).

He then left California to attended The University of Texas at Austin (BS Chemistry, 2016). At UT, David was a member of the Rose Group, where he studied charge transport through silicon photoelectrode-bound oligo-phenyl molecular wires.

After college, David attended the University of New England College of Dental Medicine in Portland, ME (DMD, 2020). There, he worked under Dr. Takashi Komabayashi, evaluating the properties of root canal sealers. In conjunction with Shofu Dental Corporation (Kyoto, Japan), he and Dr. Komabayashi studied the sealing capacity and retreatment removability of a prototype surface pre-reacted glass ionomer root canal sealer.

David completed his endodontic residency at UTHealth Houston (MSD, 2024) under the mentorship of Dr. Timothy Kirkpatrick. Under Dr. Ji Wook Jeong and Dr. Kirkpatrick, he completed his thesis studying the solubility of bioceramic sealers in novel acidic, alkaline, and chelating solutions.

David is board-eligible with the American Board of Endodontics and licensed in the states of California and Texas, currently practicing endodontics in Greater Houston.

David also serves as adjunct associate professor at UTHealth Houston’s Department of Endodontics. His scientific and clinical interests include the chemistry and properties of bioceramics, evaluating novel endodontic materials, and techniques in endodontic microsurgery.

He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and the American Association of Endodontists.

David’s wife, Dr. Dorothy Ann Crowley, is also a board-eligible endodontist; along with their border collie Daisy, they are expecting their first child in August 2025. In his spare time, David enjoys live music, cooking, watching Star Trek re-runs, following college football (Hook ‘em Horns!), bowling (PR 223), gardening, and tabletop roleplaying games. He is also an avid musician and multi-instrumentalist, currently playing drums for the Houston rock band Yaupon.
